Abstract
In the first part of the article the author presents a synthetic view on the human body, analyzing the current main four perspectives with their unique concepts of the body: 1) biological body, 2) social body, 3) cyborg, or techno-body, and 4) “my own”, or “phenomenological” body. Each of these concepts figures prominently in the discourses of several bio-medical and social sciences, as well as in applied research, and each has its own merits and limitations. Current anthropological disciplines employ the first three perspectives, but very rarely resort to the opportunities of phenomenological concepts of the body. Besides, the body boundaries in dominant discourses on human corporeality are often presented as unproblematic. The second part of the article deals with the problematic of relations of a particular type or aspect of the human body with its relevant environment, milieu, or media, as well as with the issue of body boundaries in each of the particular type of space.
